Group Therapy in West Los Angeles
I currently run many different Therapy Groups in my West LA office. My groups are kept deliberately small and intimate, with up to five people and a therapist (or two) maximum. Therapy Groups typically meet once a week for 90 minutes and are based on proven therapeutic techniques.
Modern research shows that group therapy is effective for a variety of people, because it offers participants hope, an understanding that they are not alone in their experiences, insight into how they function inside a group dynamic, the chance to observe, model, or imitate effective behavior, catharsis, a cost-effective way to get professional help from an expert therapist.
Most of my therapy groups are organized by the treatment method used, rather than by patient condition, and hence are suitable for individuals with a variety of symptoms. The cost is between $50-$65 per group, with some sliding scales available, so please don't hesitate to call or email me if you are unsure bout which group would be best suited to your emotional needs and to your financial situation.
Current Group Therapy Offerings
Anger Management Group
Understanding poorly expressed anger, internal anger, and particularly unexpressed anger is a critical element in preventing all destructive behaviors. The term "Anger Management" is quite unfortunately misunderstood, and the truth is most people in my anger management group have experienced some type of severe emotional pain or trauma that has contributed to their present-day problems expressing their anger in a way that is useful to them. The goal is not "to never get angry," but rather to learn "how and when to be angry”. Participants in this group report and process their weekly experiences with anger, and frustration, as well as learn tools from a specified curriculum of 8 tools to understand and manage their anger response.
Couple's Communication Group
This is an eight-week workshop for couples looking for concrete skills to improve their ability to communicate, resolve conflict, make lasting repairs, and set a foundation for increased intimacy and connection.
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy Group
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is based on the revolutionary work of Dr. Marsha Linehan. Originally developed to treat Borderline Personality Disorder, DBT has become the gold-standard in the treatment of many mental health issues including eating disorders, cutting, self-harm, and suicidality. DBT combines the basic strategies of Cognitive Behavior Therapy with eastern mindfulness practices. During our weekly sessions we will teach, model, and role play skills from each of the four DBT skills training modules: Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotional Regulation, Interpersonal Effectiveness.
